Architecture must take measure of all that it is to be human in a world that is whole. It must take count of our galaxy and of a smile.
—James Hubbell

James Hubbell’s creative genius lies in his blending of art, architecture, and landscape design during the creation of many celebrated public spaces built over his 60-year career. He realizes his structures through a process of drawing, model making, and intense collaboration with other designers and craftspeople. His work can be found in environmental centers, public parks, libraries, worship centers, schools, and museums on both sides of the border. Nature always guides his work. “I wish that we could live in homes as marvelous and beautiful as that of the snail,” he once wrote. And why, he asks,“… cannot cities be as endlessly rewarding as forests?”
